U.S. Defense Department press secretary John Kirby said in an ABC program on March 13 that the imposition of a no-fly zone over Ukraine would not stop Russian forces from striking military bases near Lviv. The base, less than 20 miles from the Polish border, is used by foreign troops for training.Kirby said U.S. President Joe Biden has made it clear that U.S. troops will not fight in Ukraine. But the US will continue to redeploy forces along NATO’s eastern flank. The Biden administration had previously opposed a no-fly zone over Ukraine, arguing it would plunge the United States into direct military conflict with Russia.
